With the surge in popularity of the #MeToo movement, women’s right are finally in the spotlight again. Now that pigs like Weinstein are finally being confronted, it is time to realise how earlier feminists had already pointed out the issues at the center of this scandal. Long before sexism, objectification and sexual intimidation was taken seriously in the film industry French actrice and feminist Delphine Seyrig made the documentary Be Pretty and Shut Up. The film, which was shot in 1976 but released only in 1981, consists of a series of interviews with 24 well-known actrices. |
