This time around we will cook at the Plantage Dokcafe on Tuesday the 13th of October, and due to Corona Maatregelen we will again have two shifts for dinner. The first will be from 18:30-19:45, the second will be from 20:00-21:15. Additionally it is important that everyone reserves in advance.
If you want to join for dinner please email rebeca@aseed.net, with your preferred time-slot and we will see if we can arrange that for you! In advance, thanks so much for your flexibility!
There is a 6 euro minimum suggested contribution.
For more than 300 years, the city of Amsterdam was involved in slavery and slave trade through the West India Company (WIC) and the East India Company (VOC). What was the political and personal role of the rulers of Amsterdam? And what were the consequences for the development of Amsterdam and its inhabitants? Which effects had the choices of the rulers on the lives of the slaves in America, Africa and Asia? Should we re-evaluate the role of these companies and the notion of the ‘Golden Age’? And does the effects of the slave trade still resonate in the city today?
