Occupy & technology: social media revolution or back-to-basics? Or maybe it isn’t that simple? In this event we will discuss a few specific examples of techniques that have been used in the protests and which have been developed with activistic purposes. We talk about the different experiences with these technologies and open up the discussion for new ideas. With: Alex Hache (Madrid) about N-1 and Eleanor Saïtta (New York), co-developer of Sukey, and Gijs Peskens (Amsterdam) of occupyamsterdam.nl.
N-1 is an alternative social media platform in use by Occupy movements. Sukey is an app which uses crowd sourced information to warn protesters about police presence: imagine Google maps for protesters! (For more info see Sukey’s blog and Occupy London collecting data). Gijs Peskens will explain more about online safety and anonymous browsing. The event is accompanied with coffee and waffles for donation.
