Climate change is endangering all life on earth and is no longer a problem that lies in the future. If we want to resist the most fatal impacts of climate chaos we need to stop burning oil, coal and gas as soon as possible. That’s why on the 24th of June, CODE ROOD is calling for a mass civil disobedience action in the port of Amsterdam, the largest gasoline harbour of the world and after Rotterdam Europe's biggest coal harbor.
PROGRAM:
19:00-20:00 Food on donation!
20:00-20:30 Presentation Code Rood + Q&A
20:30-22:00 Start Screening Just Do It: A Tale of Modern-day Outlaws (Emily James, 2011)
Facebook event
Taking into account the urgency for change we consider it both necessary and legitimate to switch our focus from regular protest to mass civil disobedience. Only if we join forces and dare to take climate resistance to the next level we can overcome the power of the fossil fuel industry and create a sustainable and dignified future for humans and other living creatures.
What does civil disobedience during a climate action actually entail and look like? What are concrete reasons for its legitimacy? What are concrete reasons for taking action now and what are the plans of Code Rood coalition for climate action? Some Code Rood participants will give a brief presentation on the plans and how you can get involved.
Afterwards we will screen "Just Do It" a documentary on 'modern-day outlaws' that are resisting the climate crisis in Britain.
Synopsis:
'Emily James spent over a year embedded in environmental activist groups such as Climate Camp and Plane Stupid to document their clandestine activities. With unprecedented access, Just do It takes you on an astonishing journey behind the scenes of a community of people who refuse to sit back and allow the destruction of their world. Torpedoing the tired clichés of the environmental movement, Just Do It introduces you to a powerful cast of mischievous and inspiring characters who put their bodies in the way; they super-glue themselves to bank trading floors, blockade factories and attack coal power stations en-masse, despite the very real threat of arrest. Their adventures will entertain, illuminate and inspire.'
