Politie Haaglanden beschermt driemans haatactie van Pegida, pro-Palestinademonstranten worden tegengehouden en geïntimideerd

Op donderdagavond 12 oktober zijn mensen de straat op gegaan om te demonstreren voor Palestina en een tegengeluid te laten horen tegen een actie van Edwin Wagensveld. Hij is het ongeveer enige overgebleven lid van de extreemrechtse, islamofobe organisatie Pegida. De demonstranten in solidariteit met Palestijnen zijn met overdreven politieinzet hardhandig weggehouden van de Palestijnse missie, waar de haatactie plaatsvond. De politie Haaglanden was in grote getale aanwezig, met een tiental busjes, motoragenten, de Mobiele Eenheid en politie te paard, en surveillancewagens. Tot meer dan een kilometer rond de Palestijnse missie wemelde het van de agenten en waren de straten afgesloten. Tegendemonstranten werden gevorderd zich te legitimeren, gepaard met onmiddellijke dreigingen van arrestatie. Er zijn uiteindelijk drie van hen opgepakt. Voor de Palestijnse missie stond de politie alleen de zionistische en islamofobe actie van Pegida toe.

De Gazastrook, die al jarenlang bekendstaat als een openluchtgevangenis voor de meer dan twee miljoen Palestijnen die er wonen, wordt op dit moment door Israël platgebombardeerd. Er zijn in de afgelopen dagen al meer dan 2.300 doden gevallen, de meeste burgers, waaronder ook veel kinderen. Daarnaast gebruikt Israël wit fosfor tegen Palestijnen, volgens Human Rights Watch een mensenrechtenschending*. Ondanks deze feiten, en het apartheidsregime waar de staat Israël de Palestijnen al decennia aan onderwerpt, hebben westerse media en politici het bijna alleen maar over geweld van de kant van Hamas. Rutte sprak bijvoorbeeld zijn onvoorwaardelijke steun aan Israël uit. Die steun is ook terug te zien in het feit dat Nederlandse overheidsinstanties samenwerken met Israël. De Veiligheidsregio Haaglanden werkt bijvoorbeeld samenwerkt met Elbit, de grootste Israëlische wapenproducent, aan een drone-project. Hierbij wordt dezelfde technologie die wordt toegepast om Palestijnen te bombarderen gebruikt bij onder andere het surveilleren van demonstraties in Nederland**.

In het verlengde van dit politieke klimaat beschermt de Haagse politie dus extreemrechtse haat tegen Palestijnen en Moslims. Terwijl de drie Pegida-aanhangers (Edwin, de cameraman, en de chauffeur) letterlijk door een overmacht aan politie worden beschermd, worden demonstranten die een tegengeluid willen laten horen geïntimideerd, onderworpen aan ID-controles zonder dat daar een duidelijke grond voor wordt gegeven, geduwd, en uiteindelijk weggestuurd onder dreiging van arrestaties en geweld. De politie laat duidelijk zien aan welke kant zij staat, en dat zij niet aarzelt agressie en intimidatie in te zetten om die kant te beschermen.

Maar solidariteit maak je niet kapot met geweld! Zonder gerechtigheid zal er nooit vrede zijn.

Haaglanden police protect three-man hate action by Pegida, pro-Palestine protestors are obstructed and intimidated

On Thursday evening, October 12th, people took to the streets to protest for Palestine and to stand up against an action by Edwin Wagensveld. He is about the only remaining member of the far-right, Islamophobic organization Pegida. The protestors in solidarity with Palestinians were forcefully kept away from the Palestinian mission, where the hate action took place, with excessive police deployment. The Haaglanden police were present in large numbers, with a dozen vans, motorcycle officers, riot cops, police on horseback, and surveillance vehicles. Up to more than a kilometer around the Palestinian mission the area was swarming with cops and the streets were closed. Counter-protestors were ordered to identify themselves, accompanied by immediate threats of arrest. Three of them were eventually arrested. In front of the Palestinian mission, police allowed only Pegida's Zionist and Islamophobic action.

The Gaza Strip, that for years has had the reputation of an open-air prison for the more than two million Palestinians living there, is currently being bombed to the ground by Israel. More than 2,300 have been killed in recent days, most of them civilians, including many children. In addition, Israel is using white phosphorus against Palestinians, a human rights violation according to Human Rights Watch*. Despite these facts, and the apartheid regime to which the state of Israel has subjected the Palestinians for decades, Western media and politicians talk almost exclusively about violence on the part of Hamas. Rutte, for example, expressed his unconditional support for Israel. That support is also reflected in the fact that Dutch government agencies cooperate with Israel. For example, the Haaglanden Security Region is collaborating with Elbit, Israel's largest arms manufacturer, on a drone project. This involves using the same technology used to bomb Palestinians to monitor demonstrations in the Netherlands, among other things**.

In line with this political climate, the Hague police are protecting far-right hatred against Palestinians and Muslims. While the three Pegida supporters (Edwin, the cameraman, and the driver) are literally protected by an excess of cops, protestors who want to stand against them are intimidated, subjected to ID checks for no apparent reason, pushed, and eventually sent away under threat of arrest and violence. The police clearly show which side they are on, and that they do not hesitate to use aggression and intimidation to protect that side.

But you don't destroy solidarity with violence! Without justice, there will be no peace.
