The 8th of March has been an important date for more than a century, and its history is often traced back to the strike of textile working women in New York on 1908. Many also remember the International Socialist women conference in 1910. In the Netherlands, feminists held the First International Women's Day on 12 May 1912. They demanded to stop WWI, the right to vote for women, and for the legalization of abortion.
