Protest tegen bezoek Colombiaanse President

Op 9 februari wordt er in Brussel geprotesteerd tegen de komst van de Colombiaanse president Alvaro Uribe.

In Colombia worden al jaren boeren, vakbondsleiders, mensen van de Indiaanse of zwarte groepen en andere mensen die actief zijn in de sociale beweging bedreigd, gevangen gezet of vermoord. Dit gebeurt door paramilitaire groepen die worden gedoogd en gesteund door de regering.
Dit alles onder het mom van de strijd tegen drugs en de strijd tegen terrorisme. Iedereen die zich verzet tegen tegen de rechtse regering wordt er direct van beschuldigd bij de de FARC guerrilla te horen. Ook de VS zijn aktief in de regio, onder andere met de ondersteuning van gifbesproeingen. Dit 'Plan Colombia' zou zijn gericht tegen de drugsteelt en -handel, maar het wordt steeds duidelijker dat er amerikaanse financiële belangen in het algemeen worden beschermd en dat de amerikaanse militaire steun wordt gebruikt om groepen die zich tegen het neo-liberalisme verzetten eronder te houden.
Het is de gewone bevolking die het meest te lijden heeft van de burgeroorlog. Je inzetten voor vrede is echter levensgevaarlijk.
Er zijn op 9 februari in Brussel tot nu toe twee acties gepland:
* Om 12 uur een protest bijeenkomst voor het gebouw van de Europese Commissie. Lokatie: Schuman Rond Punt.
* Om half 6 bij Kleine Zavel voor het Egmont Paleis. Uribe zal hier deelnemen aan een vergadering met Belgische Regering.

Already for many years the Colombian Government is responsible for many cruelties againt the peasants, union leaders and indigenous people. The international 'Plan Colombia' ensures the help of the US and several other countries for the war against the Colombian people. All in name of the 'War on terrorism'. The truth is that the Colombian government accuses all it opposition of being part of the guerrilla group FARC although the social movement mainly want peace and an alternative for the neo-liberal policy and power of a small rich elite.

The fact is that he was invited by the group of European Socialist Parties to intervene in a central plenary of the European Parliament, and this proposal generated a big rejection from other groups.
Uribe is finally coming in order to ask for EU support to the Plan Colombia. Officially, the main
objectives of Uribe's visit are: look for political and financial support to his 'development' project and his programme of 'fight against terrorism', apart from trying to concrete the second round of the table of donors for Plan Colombia.
Uribe will arrive in Brussels on 9th February. Afterwards he will be at the European Parliament the 10th and continue his journey to Rome and Berlin.
Come to Brussels on 9th February to attend two manifestations/demonstrations that are being organised in order to denounce Uribe's fascist politics and make a public rejection of his presence in the European Parliament.
* There will be a concentration in front of the Building of Ministers of EU, rond point Schuman, at 12:00 on 9th February.
* The second one it would be at Place du Petit Sablon 1000 Brussels, in front of Palais d'Egmont at 17:30 on 9th February. There the beast will be in a meeting of high level with the belgium goverment.
