Under the title "today even the drawers are winners" Klara Wallner has gathered seventeen international artists engaged primarily in drawing on the one hand and who, on the other hand, have integrated the medium of the drawing itself into their artistic production. The drawing is the most unmediated act and has thus been seen as the medium of the artistic idea, even as its very origin, since the Renaissance. Yet the medium had difficulty stepping out of the shadows of painting, sculpture and architecture and finding recognition as an independent artistic genre. Only gradually has the drawing peeled itself away from its preparatory role. Even at the turn of the 20th century it was only truly autonomous in the popular field of caricature and comics. Yet today it has asserted itself as a medium and has become the exclusive mode of expression for many artists. In order to present this most direct medium in the history of art in its full range, for "today even the drawers are winners" both Klara Wallner PLUS and the Klara Wallner Galerie have been conscripted. We are happy to welcome you to visit and to guide you through the world of minutely drawn lines and tectonic fragments; trash-arty statements or water-colored, slightly under-exposed-seeming family portraits; comic-like Hollywood culture or collaged dialogues between dismembered photos of women and drawn forms; grotesque landscapes with opulent, semi-nude women or stark, deep black outlines of shadow on white backgrounds that dispense with all corporeality.
