Watch this Australian Aboriginal film Diet Simon - 17.10.2006 03:16
KANYINI is a story told by an Aboriginal man, Bob Randall, who lives beside the greatest monolith in the world, Uluru, in Central Australia. Based on Bob's own personal journey and the wisdom he learnt from the old people living in the bush, Bob tells the tale of why Indigenous people are now struggling in a modern world and what needs to be done for Indigenous people to move forward. I have come across shocking ignorance about Australian Aborigines here on Netherlands. At the same time there seems to be a lot of genuine interest in them. I'd therefore like to recommend a film, soon to be available as a DVD. Based on Bob's own personal journey and the wisdom he learnt from the old people living in the bush, Bob tells the tale of why Indigenous people are now struggling in a modern world and what needs to be done for Indigenous people to move forward. A tale of Indigenous wisdom clashing against materialist notions of progress, this is not only a story of one man and his people but the story of the human race. From testimonials: Anyone coming cold to the story of Australia's Indigenous disgrace will no longer be ignorant after seeing this beautifully shot film and hearing Uncle Bob tell it the way it is......A special film that tells an "open truth" that should have been told a very long time ago.....Kanyini is one of those rare films that not only moved me to tears with its heartbreaking account of what happened to the indigenous people of this land, but also filled me with a great sense of hope.....entirely compelling and incredibly important.....Every Australian inherits the grim & disturbing consequences of the profound cultural collision that occurred with the European invasion of 1788.....Finally,a documentary that makes sense of such a complex and much neglected issue....This is not what I was taught at school. I really can't wait to show it to my daughter...a film all Australians should see.....in listening to our Aboriginal leaders/elders we can learn an awful lot about the state of our nation.....If this movie was shown to someone completely uneducated about Aboriginals then by the end of it they would have a full understanding and feel that they have been treated unfairly and feel the need to express their opinion and help on the journey to justice for the Aboriginal people.....Watch, weep and learn.....If a film were ever made to reshape or underwrite the national identity of Australians, KANYINI would be it....that is how our Australian history should have been taught in the first place.
