international protests | SOFA Muenster - 08.05.2007 15:31
The uranium train is probably starting at about 7 pm in Gronau, then goes to Muenster first and on to Rheine, Bad Bentheim and Oldenzaal before it passes through Hengelo. In Gronau, Burgsteinfurt, Muenster, Greven and Rheine protests are definitely planned. However, in the past spontaneous protests have evolved in other places too. Good luck with the action in Hengelo !! PS: Warm greetings to G8-Fietskarawaan who hopefully arrive tomorrow afternoon in Gronau, right in front of the uranium enrichment plant! For the very first Urenco confirmed the transport date for a uranium train ahead of the transport itself! In a surprise move Mr Ohnemus (head of Urenco Germany) told a member of the AKU Gronau tonight, that the uranium waste train will leave Gronau this afternoon as expected by anti-nuclear groups for some weeks now. This should just be the first step in opening up the strict secrecy surrounding the uranium transport from and to Gronau and Almelo. The next step after the transport is to visit Urenco at their little conference in Almelo on 13 May at the Theaterhotel, Schouwburgplein 1, to make sure that the public is welcome there. Apparently Mr Ohnemus said tonight that he thinks local politician are not capable to grasp the (technical) issues concerning uranium enrichment. Therefore they were not invited ... That shows how far removed (and dangerous) the nuclear community is!
