15 year old boy killed by cops in Australia sarkez - 13.12.2008 02:15
"Gunned down by idiot cops. That's life hey?" the message left on the myspace page of a 15 year old boy killed by police in Australia. A 15 year old boy has been shot dead in a skate park in Australia after allegedly threatening police with knives he had stolen from a department store. Someone called the police after he had been spotted acting 'erratically'. The police claim they fired warning shots, and even if all this is true, does it justify fully grown coppers shooting a teenage boy several times? Surely they're trained to take people down safely? Especially someone who doesn't have a gun, who is smaller than them, just a kid who nicked some knives. The boy is said to be a member of a naionalist organisation called Southern Cross. This is mentioned in the article as though it is somehow relevant but without any real explanation. Anyone shed any light? 15 year old boy. Shot dead by cops. December 2008. What's going on here? |

... before spewing nonsense. Here we go again. Trying to get another case like that greek boy that got shot. I know in places like this it's common sense to belittle, accuse and condemn police officers, but still to see some common sense here would be nice (albeit unrealistic). Where ever you are in this world you DO NOT attack, or perceive to be attacking, a police officer while carrying a weapon unless you want to get shot. Try this, give a friend of yours a small stick and cover it in red paint, then try to subdue your friend without you getting paint from the stick on you. Unless your friend is the biggest whimp on the planet you'll get more then 1 paint transfer on you. So no, you do not disarm someone carrying knives simply. Police officers are trained when dealing with armed people to aim for center mass (this means chest and stomach area). Shooting someone in the arm, leg is a hollywood fiction as there is way to much chance you'll miss and in this kind of close encounter missing might very well constitute getting killed yourself. Besides, suppose you do hit him in the leg, then what? The person is still holding the knives, only now he is bleeding to death and unless he drops the knives you can't go to him and administer first aid. The guy had been talked with, peppersprayed and had been given a warning shot and he kept on saying "kill me, or I am going to kill you" and went for 4 armed police men. I feel sorry for the family, but that guy was cleary going for a darwin award. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24788737-1243,00.html Oh, lifted from another article and I quote: "People who knew Tyler well said the teen, armed with cleavers, would have carried out his threat to kill police. "The officers who shot him most definitely had good reason . . . If they didn't do what they did, he wouldn't have stopped," a former friend said. "
