Complete Jacques Ellul bibliotheek online

Hello all!

Since February we have been working at redesigning and putting up completely new content to the Jesus Radicals website ( http://www.jesusradicals.com). The website is now live! It is a completely new site (hence if you had links to our site content before, they are no longer valid). Here are some highlights:

In the theology section you will find the most comprehensive collection of Jacques Ellul articles published in English that are easily accessible anywhere. Every article he wrote that is available in English, excluding reprints from books, is now online (that is nearly 100 articles. And actually there are five I still am waiting for, but they will be up very soon). Some of them, such as one published in the New York Catholic Worker paper in 2004, are exclusively available on our site. The page also includes a clip of Ellul speaking about technology (subtitles and a link to the where to get the full DVD are there). We remain committed to translating Ellul’s works and putting them online, till such time as they go into print for us to easily access. To that end, this is also a call for more translators. There are a few already up.

In addition, the John Howard Yoder page now contains at least a dozen very obscure writings from the Gospel Herald and other sources that are pertinent to the themes or Jesus Radicals. Moreover, there is a video clip of Yoder, the first on the internet, speaking about the limits of democracy (again, with a link to another site as to where to get the entire lecture series on DVD.)

New sections on Dorothy Day, Greg Boyd, Ched Myers (who has written recently on anarcho-primitivism), Hauerwas (with a clip of him talking about Romans 13) can all be accessed on the theology section.

The anarchism section has a completely new focus and content. The focus is Green anarchism. There are clips of Jared Diamond talking about collapse of previous civilizations (I cannot recommend Diamond's book Collapse highly enough), John Zerzan on the technology, sections on war, civilization, the state and more. I have also included a section on the police with three of my publications against “just policing” (Andy Alexis-Baker). That section will have more articles as they are published in print form (the publishers should get first grab at them). No Christian website or even any publications really deal with the police in depth. So those articles might be of interest for those with an uneasy conscience about policing. I guarantee there is something challenging on the anarchism section for everyone.

We have also added a new section on creation, environment and nonhuman animals. The environment section’s focus is not on the problems, but on some solutions and ways to rethink our relationship to nature. At present, there are only a few pieces, but we got some good folks working on that section. Within a few weeks, new ideas on rewilding, dumpster diving, 305.org’s new project etc will be up and running. The nonhuman animal section has resources on veganism, speciesism, factory farming, and other pertinent issues (we spare you the blood and gore, but we do not think any of us really should be spared).

Finally, the South Pacific Christian Anarchists (Australia and New Zealand) have began to update their site and are planning for their 2009 gathering as well. And the folks in the UK are also updating their site, so if you are looking for their content, it is there, but much more of a work in progress right now (they just got into it this week).

You’ve already got the message on the conference. Nekeisha or someone else will be in touch about it again (I am not involved in organizing that. Email  nekeisha@jesusradicals.com for comments and questions about it).

Grace and peace

Andy Alexis-Baker
