Smells like Junta spirit: Broadcaster of the anti-dictatoria @@ - 22.10.2009 13:49
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE4H6BLCQ_0 Since the election of the “socialist” party to power, the neighbourhood of Exarcheia in central Athens has seen an unprecedented police presence: cops of all shapes and sizes have quite literally been occupying the neighbourhood on a daily basis. People are ID’d, detained, arrested, simply for being in the area. With a media blackout on the neighborhood’s occupation, it might have been difficult for many to believe last night’s events. At around 10pm on Wednesday night, cops in full gear stormed cafe Floral in Exarcheia. The cafe was hosting a book reading by C. Kasdaglis, a well-known writer of the left. Moments before the raid left-wing MPs were also in the cafe. Soon after they left, the cops stormed in and arrested two youths. Among the people who came to complain about the arrests was Dimitris Papaxristos, who was also promptly arrested, together with a journalist from state tv who tried to capture the arrest on their mobile phone. Stunningly, Dimitris Papaxristos was the broadcasting voice behind the student radio set during the historic anti-dictatorial demonstration of 1973. The two (along with the two youths) were released later in the night. What would have happened to them if they were anonymous, is anyone’s guess. The people of Exarcheia are not having any more of this: a fresh anti-police demonstration has been called for 7pm tonight. Cops out of Exarcheia, cops out of the planet! |
