A German anti-nuclear group is inviting like-minded to an international uranium conference in February.
SOFA Muenster played a large part in stopping exports of uranium waste from enrichment plants in Gronau (Germany) and Almelo (Holland) for open-air dumping in Russia, "at least for the time being", as they write.
As part of that campaign they hosted an international uranium conference in Dortmund in 2007.
"Now, one year after Fukushima and amidst dramatic changes within the uranium and nuclear industry, we are organizing another international uranium conference, this time in Muenster (55 km southeast of Gronau)," the call-out says.
"We want to look at the changes within the industry (e. g. who wants to take over the Urenco shares from EON, RWE and the British state, where are new uranium mines planned, what are the plans of AREVA and Rosatom) and of course at a whole bunch of uranium-related topics, and discuss them with a wide panel of people and groups.
"It is obvious that we have to close down the uranium industry if we want to end the nuclear age."
The conference is supported by numerous groups from Germany and other countries.
The conference will be in Muenster on 4 February 2012, from 10 am to 6 pm. There will be a manifestation in front of Germany's only uranium enrichment plant in Gronau on 5 February at 1 pm.
All the relevant information (programm, address, contact) can be found on the conference-website on www.urankonferenz2012.de.
"If you have material to publish, please forward it to info@urankonferenz2012.de.
"If you would like to come please register via the same mail-address, especially if you need some accommodation in Muenster!
"We would be delighted to have you in Muenster, because we believe that the time has come to turn more attention onto the powerful and dangerous uranium industry."
