17 november 2015 - Afdgelopen zondag werd de Anarchistische Anti-deportatiegroep Utrecht (AAGU) vereerd met de toekenning van de Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis (FDN)-penning en een geldbedrag in het gelijknamige museum te Heereveen. Dat was een aangename verrassing.

Na een lange rit werden we verwelkomd met een uitgebreide rondleiding in het museum zelf, waar de volle boekenkasten, pamfletten, portretten, eerbetoon en haatmail van, - aan en tegen FDN worden tentoongesteld.
Journalist Jan Donkers gaf daarna de FDN lezing voor dit jaar over Provo, voor een inmiddels volle zaal. Net voor de uitreiking arriveerde nog een deel van AAGU met support van een groep kameraden.

Voorzitter van het FDN fonds Bert Altena las het juryrapport voor, waaruit hier enkele fragmenten:

(...) "Migratiestromen worden een probleem door de houding van staten, die hulpzoekenden het liefst terugsturen naar de landen waaruit ze gevlucht zijn. Het is een vreemde zaak: de Nederlandse staat helpt bij bombardementen in Irak, maar geeft geen thuis wanneer Irakezen hier om hulp vragen.
De opvang van asielzoekers leidt momenteel tot verhitte debatten en demonstraties. Xenofobe vooroordelen en regelrecht racisme krijgen de wind in de zeilen door rechtse populisten en angstige establishment politici. Gelukkig gaan ook stemmen op die pleiten voor een humane opvang en een houding die asielzoekers perspectief biedt, maar humaniteit alleen is onvoldoende om de huidige problematiek diametraal onder ogen te zien. Zolang ongelijkheid de wereldsamenleving kenmerkt en staten op allerlei manieren hun best doen die ongelijkheid in stand te houden, zolang zullen er asielzoekers blijven en kunnen Nederlanders hun ogen niet sluiten voor het feit dat hun relatieve luxe zijn eigen kosten heeft. Een werkelijke wereldsamenleving is een solidaire samenleving.
Allerlei bewegingen proberen het lot van asielzoekers te verzachten en dat is te prijzen, er is echter een beweging die al jaren de zaak van een kosmopolitisch en anarchistisch standpunt benadert en zich zodoende diametraal tegenover de tot nog toe gevolgde staatspolitiek opstelt: de Anarchistische Anti-deportatie Groep Utrecht.
(...) Achtergrond van de activiteiten van AAGU is de overtuiging dat natiestaten een solidaire wereld tegenwerken en dat alle grenzen open moeten zijn. Op dit moment zijn dergelijke actie en inspiratie meer dan ooit vereist en het is om die reden dat het Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis-Fonds de Domela Nieuwenhuis-penning aan AAGU uitreikt."

Joke Kaviaar en Ron Vrij namen namens AAGU de penning in ontvangst en hielden een toespraak over de campagne tegen gezinsgevangenis Kamp Zeist. Tenslotte werden ter illustratie de beelden van de 'muuractie' van vorig jaar vertoond.

De penning staat voor kanteling en verandering en heeft een hoog abstractiegehalte. Vanuit pragmatische overwegingen vonden we vooral de materie (metaal) en het gewicht (685 gram) interessant. Maar we zullen de penning, waarin naast Recht voor Allen en het Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis-Fonds ook AAGU staat gegraveerd, koesteren, evenals haar symboliek.

Een groepsfoto bij een portret/ de baard (?) van Domela mocht natuurlijk niet ontbreken. Maar omdat het FDN museum al bleek afgesloten stond AAGU helaas weer voor een gesloten hek.

We danken het FDN fonds voor deze eervolle vermelding en ondersteuning!
Wij gaan in ieder geval door met de strijd tegen de zichtbare en onzichtbare grenzen van Fort Europa.

ENGLISH: AAGU receives Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis medal 2015

November 17 2015 - Last Sunday the Anarchisti Anti-deportation group Utrecht (AAGU) was honoured by the award of the Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis (FDN) medal and a sum of money in the museum of the same name in Heerenveen. This was a pleasant surprise.
After a long drive we were welcomed with an extensive tour through the museum itself, where full book cases, leaflets, portraits, tribute and hatemail of, to and against FDN are being exhibited.
Journalist Jan Donkers then gave the lecture of this year about Provo, in front of a now full house. Just before the award ceremony another part of AAGU arrived together with the support of a group of comrades.

Chairman of the FDN fund Bert Altena read the jury report out of which a few fragments:

(...) "Migration flows are becoming a problem due to the attitude of states, which prefer to send those who are seeking help back to the countries they have fled. It's a strange thing: the Dutch state helps bombing in Iraq, but does nothing when Iraqis come here for help.
The reception of asylum seekers is currently leading to heated debates and demonstrations. Xenophobic prejudices and outright racism are able to grow thanks to of right-wing populists and frightened establishment politicians. Fortunately, there are also voices advocating humane shelter and an attitude that offers asylum seekers perspective, but humanity alone is insufficient to face the current problems diametrically.
As long as inequality characterizes the world society and states are in many ways doing their best to maintain this inequality, so long there will be asylum seekers and the Dutch can not close their eyes to the fact that their relative luxury has its own expense. A real world society is a solidary society.
All kinds of movements are trying to ease the plight of asylum seekers and this is praiseworthy, however, there is a movement which for years has approached the matter from a cosmopolitan and anarchist viewpoint and thus diametrically opposes the state politics so far: the Anarchist Anti-Deportation Group Utrecht.
(...) Background of the activities of AAGU is the belief that nation states act against a solidary world and that all borders should be open. At present such action and inspiration is more than ever required, and it is for this reason that the Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis Fund medal is being rewarded to AAGU. "

On behalf of AAGU Joke Kaviaar and Ron Vrij received the medal and held a speech about the campaign against the family prison at Kamp Zeist. Finally some images of the 'wall action' of last year were shown to illustrate this.

The medal represents tilt and shift and has a high level of abstraction. By pragmatic considerations we especially found the material (metal) and weight (685 grams) interesting. But we will cherish both the medal itself, in which besides Right for All and the Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis Fund also AAGU is engraved, as its symbolism.

A group photo in front of a portrait / beard (?) Of Domela should not be missed. But because the FDN museum was already closed AAGU was unfortunately again standing in front of a closed fence.
