afgelopen dinsdag is Gerard "Wild Bill" Meijs, big Chief en bekend markant figuur in de amsterdamse alternatieve scene, in zijn slaap overleden.
De crematie is aanstaande zondag in Lelystad.
Onderstaande tekst komt van de cheekymonday facebook een van de vele plekken waar hij een trouw bezoeker was;
"Just heard some sad sad news that our mighty chief of chiefs has fallen. Words fail to describe the level of legendary that this great great man achieved. The pillar, the foundation. the man. the myth. the legend. Billy was so many different things to so many people. To me, he was the undisputed Amsterdam party champion of all time. Billy was not just at your party. Billy did not just follow the party. The party did not follow Billy. Billy WAS the party. If Billy was at an event, then that is where you should have been too. The beating heart of Amsterdam. Generally misunderstood and most likely misinterpreted. A man whose conversations and stories were not necessarily spoken in an order that most would go for, my friend would generally start with the punchline and work backwards. However, ask the right question and you'd get access to mind-blowing knowledge and wisdom. The great supporter of the Amsterdam underground, Billy was once even spotted carrying a flag at the front of a street dealer's march. Collector of anything. Giver of the most random gifts. Billy once brought us a toy merry-go-round with 3 cars to celebrate 4 years of Cheeky. Billy loved Cheeky Monday and always stole a poster before getting his rave on. A monster. An icon. The everlasting. The unstoppable. Demander of singular icecubes. A friend to everyone. An example to us all. Bringer of joy and confusion. Fighter for the good fight. The activist. The original. A tragedy that this man never got his own TV show. This man's legend will be talked about for generations yet understood by none.. The one and only. The hero. The wise. The king. The Chief. The Wild Bill. You will be missed Billy buddy, thanks for so many golden memories, may you rest in peace mate, X"
